Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three small islands or gili located based in the northwest of Lombok. Trawangan is also the only gili’s
whose height above sea level is significant. With a length of 3 km and width of
2 km, Trawangan populated about 800 people. Among the three gili, Trawangan has
facilities for the most diverse tourists; the "Tîr na Nôg" tavern
claims that Trawangan is the smallest island in the world with its Irish bar.
The most populous part is the east of the island.
Trawangan has a feel of "party" more than Gili Meno
and Gili Air, because of the many parties throughout the night that each night
rotated its show by some crowded places. Popular activities made by tourists in
Trawangan are scuba diving (with certification), snorkeling (on the northeast beach),
and surfing.
In Gili Trawangan (as well as the other of two gili), there
are no vehicles, because they are not permitted by local rules. The usual means
of transportation just bicycles (rented by the local community for tourists)
and cidomo, a simple horse cart commonly found in Lombok. To travel to and from
the three gili, visitors usually use motorized boats and speedboats.
Excess Gili Trawangan compared with other beach is we can
enjoy the beautiful sunset and sunrise at once on this beach! This happens
because Gili Trawangan has a beautiful beach at east and west, and the distance
is not too far away. So that we can enjoyed the sunset and sunrise on this
beach
Geography
and climate
The Islands are located in the Lombok Strait, to the
immediate northwest of Lombok. They extend outward from a tiny peninsula called
Sire near to the village of Tanjung on Lombok. Bali lies about 35 km to the
west of Gili Trawangan, the islands' most westerly member. Both Bali and Lombok
are easily visible from the Gilis in clear weather. Mount Rinjani, Indonesia's
second highest volcano, is close by on neighbouring Lombok, and dominates the
views towards the east.
Due to their close proximity to the Equator, the Islands have
a warm, Tropical climate with a dry and wet season. With Mount Rinjani to the
immediate east on Lombok, and Mount Agung to the west on Bali, The Gilis are
somewhat sheltered and actually enjoy a slightly drier Microclimate when
compared to the surrounding archipelago. Dry Season usually lasts from May
until October, with Monsoon season starting in November and continuing through
to April. Temperatures range between 22 °C to 34 °C, with an average annual
temperature of around 28 °C.
